I haven't received my Shure SRH440s, my fiio e5, and my iPod LOD cable yet...
 
But here is what my setup is going to be, keep in mind that before this, I was used to the ipod earbuds:
 
Sound card: ASUS Xonar DS
Main Headphones: Shure SRH440, occasional portable use
Portable Headphones: Koss KSC75
Amp (portable): Fiio E5
Misc. accessory: iPod LOD cable, debating between Fiio L1 and Fiio L3 Help? 9$ vs 21$ respectively
 
Sources: Desktop computer with Xonar DS (should I also plug in the amp?) and for portable use, iPod Touch 2nd gen + ipod LOD + Fiio E5
 
What should I expect? Which LOD? Fiio L1 or L3? How do you find all this for 150$ + ipod LOD? (I'm in Canada so I find its a good deal)
 
Would you recommend my setup to other beginners?

this is a pretty respectable setup, coming straight from ipod earbuds.
the xonar should be enough for the shure headphones.  i wouldn't think the FiiO would make any difference in that chain...
 
most importantly, enjoy it when it all arrives!!!

Do you mean Fiio the amp or Fiio the LOD?

i guess i mean there's no need to put the amp between the soundcard and your cans.
won't make much difference if any.

oh thanks for the clarification... would putting the amp hurt sound quality?

no i don't think so.
but the xonar soundcard is supposed to be pretty good.  so the fiio on top of that would be more than needed for the srh440.
