I'm just thinking it would be nice to only use a dac1, headphones and a squessebox.

Would it work nice, ore will I have to buy a headamp separately also?

Thinking of maybe using Grado rs1i ore gs1000i headphones. But I'm open for suggestions.

a headamp will make a diffrence. Upgrade them all over time is my suggestion.

I think that the amp in the DAC1 is underrated. I enjoyed it very much both with my SR225, RS1 and SA5000.

But it will be something different from the Earmax that you have now. I you are able to, I would keep the Earmax and see which you like the best.

About as good as a Meta42 headphone amp : LM4562 + 2x BUF634.

Meaning definitely decent, but most $100+ standalone amps would be better.

The Dac-1 headamp is definitely good enough to use on its own, but you can also improve upon it with the stand alone amps. I would try the internal amp first, then upgrade later if you want to.

Agree stand alone amp like will be better. But I not sure just little over $100+ amp going to cut it.

I'd put a $50 Sijosae Class-AB over it.

Same thing with a Pimeta2 at about $80.
