How does the CanAmp connect to a Ipod??

morph201, i don't think the ipod is considered a weak source. The line out outputs plentiful of voltage that even i cant go more than 50% on my unity gain amp. (unity gain has no amplification at all). Using a HD650

. So as you can see, a gain of 11 + Ipod = extremely loud.

Haha! Well, I'm deaf! But when I had the hornet on HIGH gain (I think it's 8 or so)... I had the pot cranked to 2 o'clock! But using my CDP as a source it was noticeably louder at a lower setting.

haha me again. I'm debating the purchase now as I really don't have to much cash on hand. Only enough for a wise investment. Do you think that if I plugged my Ipod into this CanAmp I would really hear a major difference from my PA2V2? I know it sounds silly, but I COULD theoretically use this cash for something less important, and I just want to make sure that a really big difference will be heard if you know where I'm coming from.

IMO, macabrae, the PA2V2 is the worst equipment i've ever spent on. It sounds....as crappy as my portable's internal amp. Funny though, a cmoy, on the other hand, sounds much better. Different strokes for different folks. YMMV.

ALO.com, qables.com, etc... You're still stuck with the ipod's DAC though, unless you get it imodded, but that's only for 4th gen. pods.

Then you'd still be "stuck" with the DAC.

(There is one link on this forum to a device which provides a digital out, i.e., pre DAC. It's USD1000+ though.)

Ah, the DAC isn't beefed up during the imodding? Oh vell, ANYONE paying 1k to modify the ipod needs to be committed!

Nope. Vinnie takes the headphone amp and connection out of the loop amongst other things. It's described on his web page.

Yea, I know, I've seen it a while back, but I'm too lazy and\or not even interested to re-read it again, so I had to trust my "RAZOR SHARP MEMORY"

LOL! I'd rather spend the 1k (or more) on a ready to go package.. I'm not into modding, if it doesn't come the way I like it stock, then I'll pass!

so my UNmodded ipod connected to the heed to my AKG 701's will still sotra kinda suck because my ipod isn't so great in the first place? I thought that bypassing the amp would improve the quality..

Nono, it won't suck... It just wont suck as much!

(joking).. the imod takes it to a another level, BUT it's for 4th gen ipods only.

For my ears, my ipod wasn't a great source, but that was me being picky! Bypassing the crapod's amp will improve cosiderably... But, it won't be in the same ball park as a Meridian 808 as a source.

Jezzus people! I'm gonna have to put college off! lol. just KIDDING. I have 1 gig out of 30 gigs on my ipod [TONS of FLAC Beatles remastered from origanal master tapes]. I'd gladly replace it for a 60 gig.. Perhaps I will. This place is a drain on my wallet, but it's better that my old habbit of buying movie props.
