From OHIO???!!! TRUST ME, you do NOT want to sound like you're from Ohio!!! I've lived here about 10 years now, having also lived on the East Coast and West Coast, and trust me when I tell you they have a serious 'accent' or 'inflection' here (often 'whiney' sounding), and often 'rape' the English language!

Case in point. Many out here drive a 'curr' (not a 'car'), and they drink 'rutt' beer (not 'root beer'). They have a 'ruff' (not a 'roof') over their heads, and they like to go 'byaaack' (not 'back') in time at their High School reunions!

They pronounce 'Milan', Italy 'Mye-lan'!!!!

This is just the tip of the iceberg! LOL!

Never really thought about it. I think I do follow the rule, subconciously.

It's not that different from the a/an rule.
