Typically I will follow the pronunciation rule as you gave it, but I do tend to say "thee" more often, even when it isn't called for, just to add some emphasis to what I'm saying.

Either way, I never, ever consciously think about that rule when I'm doing it. I just say what sounds 'right' and makes the sentence flow like I think it should - which happens to be in accordance with that rule.

'pwned' supposedly originated from when some person in an online game made a typo and was supposed to type something like 'so and so got owned!' but made a typo error and came out as 'so and so got pwned!'. And the word closely resembles 'pawn' the lowest chess piece which frequently is the first to succumb to enemy pieces, hence why juvenile internet delinquents the world over spam this term incessantly.

I pronounce 'the' as 'duh' although I change it depending on the context.

And just to try & keep to the thread -I do the vowel/consonant thing, w/out really knowing why apart from it feels better/ sounds more correct that way.
