How do you clean, care, and extend the life of your ear pads?

As far as pleather ear pads are concerned, lately I've just been wiping the ear pads down after every use with a dry micro fibre cloth. Seems to work OK, but not sure if I should use water or some kind of detergent every once in awhile too?

I've only had my velour ear pads for about 9 months. I have a suede/leather shoe brush that I use to clean off the lint and debris every so often. They don't feel or smell funky yet, but I'm wondering what is the best safest method to actually washing them?

How do you care for your ear pads? Any suggestions on how to better clean and/or extend the life of ear pads?

I think for the velour ones, you should put plastic covers over them like old people who keep plastic covers on their sofas :D

Sorry. I don't have a good answer. Is this what got you thinking about it?

HAHAHA Oh man, I **** you not, that thread actually made me go smell my ear pads to see how funky they were.

I was relieved that they weren't funky, but yeah it got me thinking about washing my velours. This is my first set of velours and I really don't know the best ways to take care of them besides cleaning off the lint.

Plus, I got this pet peeve about disintegrating pleather pads, and would like to know how others have extended the life of theirs.

If your pads are easily removable then you can hand wash them every few months or so.  Otherwise I do what you do with my velour pads (DT 880).  Pleather/leather is much easier to clean.
