I didn't permanently damage anything but I had tinnitus for a few days from listening to my HD580 too loud. Those things sound SOOO good the louder you turn them up. Their mellow sound can trick you into thinking they are not pumping as many dbs as you think. Next think you know.... "dang whats that high pitched squeal?". It sucked, mine sounded like a 6000Hz test tone.
