Make sure to spend some time comparing the DT860 vs. DT880. Someone reported that the 960 sounds better. It'd be nice to hear about whether that is true from another source.

i'd like to read about the dt860 impression, its the only closed one from those dt bunches.

your avatar is oddly familiar to the old avatar of another member here, except for the gold hairs.

It's the DT660 that's the closed one. The DT440 and DT860 are definitely open.
I just compared DT440 and DT660 a little. The DT660 is way better. It's actually a damned good closed phone.

Yeah, I think I've seen the other avatar. Heh, I haven't seen many trying to use the GenderBender, but I'm confident in my masculinity, so I dare.

Well, yeah perhaps, but it's the same for all, isn't it?
All the Beyers are 32 Ohm, and the HD555 and HD595 are 120 Ohm.

I don't think the Ear++ amp is better or worse with the different loads, but it would've been fun to have tried the adapter.

Well, I really preferred the 120 Ohm output on the prehead for the DT860. Actually, I connected my DT531 to the 0 ohm output and the DT860 to the 120 Ohm output and switched back and forth and I liked what I heard, out of both naturally

14 pairs of headphones....more than one of those has to be obsolete to your collection.

Yeah, they might...from a portable unit or the headphone jack on a regular receiver or amplifier.
I doubt that the effect is very pronounced when used with a dedicated headphone amp as the Ear++, which drives Grados and HD600s with the same ease.

But hey...I haven't used the 120 Ohm adapter...so I don't know.

All I can say - for now - is that the DT860 and DT880 sounds VERY similar, and they are 32 ohm vs. 250 ohm.

I'm also very interested in a comparison between the 555's and 595's!
