Well...10 of them are borrowed. :)

Recently I've been so lucky to have the opportunity to borrow quite a few Sennheisers and Beyerdynamics for testing...

So, for a week, I've got these phones at my place:

Borrowed:
Sennheiser HD457
Sennheiser HD497
Sennheiser HD555
Sennheiser HD595
Beyerdynamic DTX700
Beyerdynamic DTX800
Beyerdynamic DTX900
Beyerdynamic DT440
Beyerdynamic DT660
Beyerdynamic DT860

These I already own:
Beyerdynamic DT880
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro
Beyerdynamic DT231
Audio-Technica ATH-W1000

Oh, man....

This is almost too much for a poor fellow. The weekend's gonna be busy...

I'm trying to give all phones a listen, but some are used more frequently (surprise?).
I'm also trying to listen to the same CD's and take some notes. Maybe I'll write down some words here.

I got the Beyers today, so I have mostly listened to the Senns as I got the yesterday.
Just some first impressions: HD595 is a damned nice phone...HD457 isn't.

Ok, must eat something (quickly), and then I'll unpack 6 Beyers.
Yes, I feel a littly lucky.

Please do a comparison between your DT880 and the DT860 for us.

Why that is an insane # of headphones to tackle. Good luck. Can you get a distribution amp or something to breakin all the headphones at once?

Uhm, I've got well over 30 - and none of these is borrowed.

Gladly enough, it's easier to store a lot of headphones than loudspeakers or personal computers...

Anyway, there hasn't been much of a comparision between the DT440, 660 and 860 yet - so that might be interesting for quite a few fellow Head-Fiers...

Greetings from Hannover!

Yeah, I'm also curious about the DTX's.
Actually I got the DTX900 on my head right now.

First impression is very positive, but I need more time.

No, unfortunately not. I would have preffered having all the phones broken in, but hey...you can't have everything. :)

I'll listen for any changes during my time with them.

The place I work sells hardware and software of all kinds, and they decided to sell some phones too. We're now selling both Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic. And I talked the distributors into lending me some samples...

I'd go crazy trying to compare that many in a short period of time. But if you have any comments on the HD555 vs. HD595, I'd like to hear them!

Definitely.
This is a comparison I've been dying to to for a long time. I REALLY like my DT880s, and they actually cost about the same here in Norway.

I'll post some impressions in a few days.

I would like to hear something about your impressions on DT880 vs. HD595.

Thanks!

I did a quick comparison yesterday, and I liked the DT880 better.
The HD595 are damned nice phones, but the DT880 are just more balanced and full-sounding.

But I like the HD595 better than the HD600... :)

More impressions will follow in a few days.

I´d be interested to hear your opinion of the 200 $/€ class...namely HD595, DT860, DT 880 with a decent midrange amp. Sennheiser seems to have instilled a bit more attack (fun factor) and less veil in their new lineup of cans. I´d be interested to see which of the three offers the best mix of well-defined bass, overall neutrality, soundstage and brilliance in the upper register at the same time.

After reading your report I will be out there comparing them myself. And who knows...maybe i´ll end up with a pair of DT440 after all.

Cheers.

Anything with a headphone jack can be used to burn in headphones. You can use any PCDP or MP3player. And any portable radio or radiocassette player (ghettoblaster/boombox) with a headphone jack can be used for burn-in IMO. As long as it powers both drivers. Some old radios power just the left driver.

Just look around and see what you've got where you can plug phones in. (profided the jacks and sockets fit.)

After writing this post I'm wondering if I might have too many crappy old radios and such lying around?
