I called the retailer again and managed to talk to someone who seemed to care more than th sales person. They were fantastic and arranged a cable be sent to me and I had it the next day.

I am happy to report these sound fantastic from my m17. It's a bit of a clumsy setup but sounds amazing for the size of the speakers.

Same. The cable is ridiculously short. I can't hide the cable connecting the two speakers on my desk. Really bad design Fiio for the cables. Sound is really good.
