I agree - they have personality. :ok_hand::jecklinsmile: Just this look is not my taste  And it really seems there is a current trend of (especially Chinese) manufacturers, to make their cables look glossy and black again, like in the beginning of earphones.
I see a wide assortment of looks? Where to tell you the truth, I'm no authority on cable looks, though I have noticed a starting of a detour from the chrome regular connectors to newer and different styles. See the thing is I have this GIANT 4.4mm plug the brushed aluminum finished ASOS+X and the black painted TOTEM ULTRA. Then a big brown colored 4.4mm on the Pyramid V, VI and VIII........that is metallic brown and gold.

Really I see opposites here, the more thought given to it?
The white and brushed ASOS+X aluminum then the black of the TOTEM ULTRA.................It seems all the colors are represented here? IMO

Maybe now manufactures have to go aluminum instead of steel? So the aluminum is more lower weight? Because the VIII is heavy at 86 grams! Imagine a regular chrome plated metal plug?

Of course you are right that there is still a big variety of looks. :) Just black and glossy is celebrating its comeback, especially as stock cable. See recent releases by UM or Thieaudio, for example..
