Hifiman SuperMini -- A New DAP
Aug 19, 2016 at 1:02 AM Post #16 of 61
The X1, X3, and X5 are Fiio products.

What a blunder! This is what happens when you're suffering from a lack of sleep (due to monster hunter and no man's sky) and keto-flu. I apologize for that! I actually meant the HM700 which I noticed has the same design language.

Our SuperMini UI system is designed by a perfect team from Carnegie Mellon University.
The feature of it is concise, decent, clear and easy to look (due to the increasing line space).
Fiio is also very good. But I hope you can take a Supermini.
You will love such small guy.

I wasn't a fan of the X1, X3, and X5 and the X7 is too expensive considering I have a DPX1 already. I'm on the lookout for a slim, more portable and cheaper DAP and the Supermini definitely caught my eye. I will be waiting eagerly for the demo unit to touch down in Singapore.

Please specify what kind of IEMs are included. They look like RE600, a little like black RE400 and just released new RE600 but nobody seems to know what they really are,
I asked Hifiman support twice but they didn't know either!

  Please wait for a while,
Now the IEM's name is still under discussion, but we can tell you that it is a balanced earphone.
It has gain a lot of praise in Chinese audio forum, and some net friends calls it "xiao hei" (in English it means mini black).
We will give you a good answer later.

Thanks but I think you've just confirmed my suspicions. I've read some Chinese reviews and opinions on forum and the general consensus is that included IEMs are somewhere between re400 and re600.

That's very poor strategy. First of all it's misleading - why would you create earphones that looks like your flagship but it's not? That's not fair to your customers, especially since you don't include any details about it. I was strongly consider to buy superMini but gave up after not being able to get any information about this IEMs.

Second of all - I think you've poorly chosen your price strategy.
Supermini with re600v2 for 400$ would be resonable and it should be quite an atractive offering.
You should create 3 variants:
- eco with re400 for 300$,
- standard with this yet to be named IEM (re500?, re600lite?) for 350$,
- deluxe with re600v2 for 400$.

I'm basing this on previous experience and quite good knowledge about the market. Given that HM700 bundled with re400 costs around 150$ (sometimes even as low as 120$) and re600 costs 200$ (sometimes you're selling them for as low as 150$ - in Hifiman official store) - 400$ for Supermini doesn't seem that attractive. I know that Supermini might be in another league soundwise than HM700 but still it's a succesor to HM700.

This look like a nice successor to the Cowon J3 for those looking for a super-portable DAP with above average battery life. The balanced ho is nice, too. The price does give pause, though. I don't know that $400 is a good price point for something with no on board storage and only 1 memory card slot.

I guess it has no digital out right? Like coax or optical? It has analogue out 1x SE and 1x BAL without any shared digital out on 3,5mm output?

Thanks, are their any plans for making a leather case for the SuperMini to protect the DAP against scratches?

Thanks, are their any plans for making a leather case for the SuperMini to protect the DAP against scratches?

It's my pleasure~
We don't have such plan, and of course it is a good idea.
In fact, we are thinking about how to let our customers feel comfortable and easy when they are walking or doing exercises.
The protect case is more important at that time.
Thank you for your great advice.

Ok thanks, I have a few more questios :)

When will it be on sale in Germany, i.e. from local HiFi shops / HiFi web shops, without need to import it?
How is the output impedance on SE and BAL output?

Or one full size SD slot would solve that too.
