HiFiMAN RE-00 Earphone Review by mark2410

I just received my pair a couple of days ago.  I have to say, these are interesting.  They are super clear sounding.  Not at all thin sounding but clear.  I don't think I've ever heard a pair of iem's tuned this way where the vocals are sooo central.  I kinda love it.  Usually when something is tuned to push the mid section, they sound "tinny" or squashed.  These bring forward the mid section, but are robust there with incredible naturalness and believability.
Vocals sound so dry and natural.
And yes, bass is recessed here, as well as drum parts and sub bass.  The interesting thing here is that even though they are pushed a bit further back, they still have detail and punch.  I would probably never EQ a pair of headphones this way, but truth, I could probably never be able to get there with this type of clarity and naturalness.  So, I kind of love that.
Instead of sounding like these are EQ'd to present this type of sound, it's more like being on the sound board and pushing those sliders forward where those musical sections are more prominently presented.  They are that clear.

Well said! If I had the words at the time I would have said exactly that. My son who is a bass head first turned his noes up on these. After his second listen he was considering getting a pair. Awesome review. I second all of what you said, except the recessed bass. Get them deep in my ear and bass is beautiful, for all that's worth.

No need to give a review cause 90% of the buyers who bought this would know exactly the hifiman house sound in this baby. The remaining are those who jumped on the bandwagon and wondered where the bass went to.

What tips are suitable for this though? The single flange are too slightly small and the bi flange are too big..

Just joined the current drop.

What size complys do the re-00 require?

Have TS100's for my Ety ER4s and TSX400s for my Aurisonic Harmony.
Will order some more if the re-00 are a different size as I can guarantee I'll not get a good seal and hate the bass on the RE-00 without them.
Thanks.

ahh your 100s will not fit them.  i believe they need t500's but i just have a heap of tips that have come off gon knows what i cannot say with certanty, having opened a pack of 500's and put them, the 400 and 500 visially look v similar.  you may want to see if you can squeeze a 400 on it if you already have them.

Thanks, I'll give the 400 a go.
Suppose I can wait a day or two for delivery of 500s if the 400s don't fit - getting on for 30 years since I was a Cub Scout, but still like to "be prepared"!

Comply's fit finder says the 400's.  I just ordered the mixed types.  I know from past experience with the RE-? that tips are bit tricky with this design.

Hi everybody. I was almost going to place a massdrop order after reading the review, but I've got a couple of doubts. In the under 50$ field there are other interesting candidates like mee audio me6 pro and soundmagics, rich in accessories too. In particular, what I'm mostly concerned about is isolation and microphonics about the hifiman RE00, moreover the me6 pro has over the ear design and detachable cables. Guys help, what would you suggest me6 pro (or others) or RE00 from massdrop?

These really are a lot of fun.  I didn't need them, and bought on a lark.  Test is that I haven't stopped using them since purchase.
Accessories are not a factor for me, and these essentially have none.

There is nothing stopping you from wearing the RE00 over ear. I do. The isolation is about the as good as any other vented IEM but won't be as good as sealed units. They are bit low in apparent bass compared to the other 2 you mentioned but a simple tweak gets it to normalcy and it's overall performance is pretty remarkable for the price.

well the 00 are better, by far, by a huge margin but.....their build is so so, the isolation isnt massive and they are waaaaay bass light compared with what many people may be used to.  so the M6pro is a great IEM, nice build, great fit, good sound, really it has no down sides at all.  the m6pro, i doubt youll find much if any negative comments about them.  btw you may want to read me full review on them.  the 00 like the 0 before it, can provoke strongly negative feelings and its neutrality is a shock to some users.

the m6pro is a great all-round everything. the 00 is a super highly specialised IEM and i do mean monitor.

Just read your M6 pro review and you're definitely less enthusiastic, I mean waaaaaay less, than what you are for RE00. :)
I had a sennheiser IE8, if I remember correctly, and I found it bass-heavy, while I simply loved a pair of PL-50 that I lost (damn it!), so maybe the 00 are a good bet for me, agree?
