ianmedium,

So why don't you just make your own 24/96 files from your 24/176's. It is very easy with dbpoweamp or iZotope RX2, both are available on the net with a little searching for free.

I have a Mac, do any of those work with a Mac? I thought they were all PC?

Weiss Saracon works on Win or Mac, and is the best in the world for software downsampling, but it's not cheap.

Or you could use your initiative.

I have XLD as I use it to rip my CD's but I could not find anywhere in it how to convert files from 24/176 to 24/96, any help would be much appreciated as I am a complete luddite on this!

Oh ianmedium, now I get you.

The way I would go about this is just decompress the FLAC files back to WAV an then re-rip at a different sample rate.

Are you familiar with MacPorts? You could install just the flac program then on the command line (Terminal):

* Install ports
* sudo port install flac (type in your password)
* cd Directory where your FLAC files are, e.g. cd ~/Music
* flac -d *.flac
* flac --best --sample-rate=96 *.wav

The only issue here is that you would have to use something like Tag to fill in the metadata (Artist, Track, Album, etc. etc.)

But believe the above should work.

Could probably do this with XLD by first converting using the Apple Lossless setting which has Sample Rate and Bit depth, then converting from the ALAC back to FLAC
