I am not saying the AK100 stage 2 is perfect. It could have more power and sometimes I find the texture of mids to metalic sounding / digital. But the DX100 also has some issues IMO in terms of SQ, and I would say that for iems, and given the 1/5 size ratio, a AK100 mod is a pretty good compromise. I need to have the 901 in hand to see if it feels less bricky than the DX100.

How is the HM901 build quality?
Looks like is all made of plastic.DX100 was much better build as I remember.
But having a lower price then AK120 I think is worth it, and it may sound better thanks to those 2 X ES9018.

Same reason why I bought ak100 instead of everything else I guess, both UI and size compromise with the SQ, well I will try to get mine with the other mod, last I check that one feels more lush and smooth compared to the original

Check out stage 2 mod and the new mezzo mod, good returns on both apparently.

I was really underwhelmed by the ak100... maybe 60% of DX100 in terms of SQ. 
While I was impressed by the 901 the first time I laid my hands on it. It is definitely better than the DX100 in almost all aspects (with a small margin, but noticable) except for airiness uptop due to the hifiman-house sounding. The more dynamic presentation and added warmth in the mids is really the no.1 feature of the 901.
I don't think the AK120 is going to surpass DX100 in terms of SQ, honestly.

Interested and sub'd. They must be really working hard to make things perfect, I can't explain the delay in the launch in other words.
 
Seems nice, no touchscreen, 128 gb sd card, can be upgraded with the amp card and be more suitable for iems. Also I think it can be used as USB DAC too right? I just have to connect it to my pc with usb port and plug the headphones to the player, open music from the computer and tadaaaaam, magic.
