I would not buy one at that price. It’s a classic headphone but the truth is the drivers are a bit outdated.
Hee hee, might want to pair that with one of those mythical "early serial number HD800" that are all the rage (yet nobody can pin down an exact serial number they stopped).

Ah yes, the cause of everyone putting their serial numbers in For Sale thread titles! Haha. What serial number is it?

This is kind of what i am doing right now. I made the mistake of creating a spreadsheet in order to find out how much money i have invested in this hobby, the total was CAD$8200 (US$6300) which is something i was not expecting, lol.

I have decided to sell everything to bring the investment to something i find to be reasonable, i am only keeping my DAC which is a Modius, my Burson Soloist, the HE6se v2 and the Kennerton GH50.

Everything else is listed:
Dunu Zen
Mangird Tea
Fostex Ebony
Audeze LCD-X 2021
LSA HP-2

The HE6 is so good i am ok with selling everything else, if this was 1 year ago before i got the Soloist + HE6 i would never think of keeping only 1 or 2 sets, if money really was a problem i would also sell the Kennerton and keep only the HE6, fortunately i can afford to keep 2 sets though. The Kennerton is unique enough to justify keeping it :)
Shame about the Mangird Tea... I LOVE mine. If something happened to it, I'd replace it without a 2nd thought. I'd rather have it with me on my plane trips than a Monarch MK II, or U.M. Mest II because I'd not lose sleep over losing a WAY-sub $1K iem, but would be PISSED if I lost a $1K or more iem. ( You know you want to keep it... It really doesn't take up THAT much space...Seller's remorse SUCKs.)

Pads? Dan Clark Ether Angled Lambskin $79. Best tested (and by ear) flat FR. Also superb soundstage - best of the 13 I've tried on HFM round cans.

Yes the bifurcation of hi-end and regular cans is a bit dated. OTOH I've witnessed some strange claims about lower tier HFM cans being in the same league as better cans.

I actually bought that one. It is my 2nd pair of he6. I have a 4 screws version. This one would be my backup. The cheapest sold was around $900 a long time ago. These are classic collections, so I expect the price slowly increases as time goes. Compare to $1700, my purchase is not bad at all.

That’s a great price for the classic HE6 especially the 4 screw version. Those are highly sought after even today.

I think that the strong "I want to have it" itch that I've been experiencing lately for this headphone is gradually being suppressed by the thought of this possible nightmare scenario of having the headphone making the route EU to US or China to get fixed and then back, perhaps multiple times If I'm a bit unlucky with it from what I understand...

Anyone in here who can recommend the upgrade of the HE-400i (closed-in stage, clear/neutral sound, snappy slam) in the sub 1K and sub 2K price bracket?

I think you can take the next step up with an HE560v4 that are selling for absolute peanuts.
