In my second stereo set I use a PMA2000 IVR to amplify headphones with 250 ohms to 600 ohms impedance.

Regarding He400Se, I improved its weaknesses. Comfort of the hadband, changing the cable, changing the pads (they are coming) and the main thing. Exchange of the original grille for the "hive" grille. This way I greatly reduce the dispersion time of the turbulence generated inside the back of the cups between the grilles and the Hifiman magnetic rails, improving sound performance.

Those are awesome looking cans!

I've got a set of Drop HE-X4's with some honeycombs too but your blue ones really pop. I've also modified my set with Brainwavz oval pads and an HD-650 headband pad that I velcroed to the headband. These HiFiMan cousins, 400se, 400i, HE-X4 really punch above their weight, especially using a balanced connection and some decent power.

The gap is so small with the first pad he installed that I can imagine it touching the pad within a few months due to leather stretch, all but negating the reason for buying this. I'm sure head size also will affect the gap, so your mileage may vary.

Clever design with the cut of the leather and the mounting with the two-sided tape, though!

The headband is so uncomfortable is there anything that can be done?
I got a pressure point on the top of my bald head. I thought of a zip tie, to compress the foam on the top.. I finished up with 2, compressing about 20mm, nearly an inch wide. If it worked, I was going to use a leather lace and do a binding. It worked for me. I still haven't gotten around to do the binding and I'm getting use to the zip ties. I can't see them, when the cans are on my head. :) So this may be the final version. I have k702 and that is the type I see people replacing for. For me it is comparable and I don't have a replacement head band on my wish list. If you don't like it, you take the zip ties off, no damage.

I'm interested in this grill mod for my 400se could you tell me where to order these online if you've got a moment to spare?

I don't like them anymore, they lack detail and stage, they put everything behind a pretty veil. But when you listen to classical music or well-recorded folk, you realize what's missing. But for citypop or similar, they give a nice coloration.
