@AmaZinger

I'm not sure what you mean by "My Dac has a 3.5mm unbalanced port."

Can you give us your gear list so we can give you some more assistance? If it helps I have the stock 400i cable which has a 1/4 and 3.5mm cable adapter attached to one end. You should be able to listen to single ended amplification thru 3.5mm or 1/4 inch with no issues. If you want to go balanced you will need to get a balanced cable that matches your balanced amp's output, which sounds like 2.5mm in your case. Again, we need the name of your amp so we can help.
I meant it has 3.5mm single end socket. It's Hilidac/Audirect Beam 2.
No worries, though, I've figured things out and ordered 2.5mm balanced cable. Thx anyways.

The stock HE-400i always sounded somewhat anemic and lean to me. I replaced the deteriorated (twice!) stock HE-400i earpads with Dekoni Elite Sheepskin, and the sound was dramatically improved, particularly in bass response and midrange warmth. I haven't felt the need to upgrade since.
Same thing here with the HE-400S and Dakoni Elite Sheepskin pads...big improvement. But now I'm thinking of giving the 400S with original pads to a friend and swap the Dakoni pads onto the 2020 HE-400i.

i hope they gonna selll them in EU also i always wanted to try he400i.
you can get them from the official store on AliExpress, I've seen them there for around 180 EUR.

Be sure to check what the max value of goods is that you can import from outside the EEA without having to pay import fees and ask the seller to label the value of the package accordingly.

I got them from hifiman directly from EU warehouse for 148-150 EURO old version. If i ordered from Aliexpress they use DHL+33EURO and 100% paying taxes tested before many times. And next year they making here paying taxes from 0 EURO (max value import) so yeah.... no more cheap chifi from Aliexpress... anyway i got HE400i 3.5mm from EU warehouse directly for 150 euro cant argue.
May I ask from what EU country they ship from?

LOL. People complained that the Sundara didn't swivel...and now it seems that they swivel too much. They just can't seem to get it right.

Have you heard the Sundara? If so, how does it compare to this new 400i?

It's better, but a used HE-500 or an Ananda are better, as in: 400 < Sundara << 500/Ananda/HEX v2 < Arya/HE6se < HEKse << Susvara
and don't cost a lot more (the 500 and Ananda). The HEKse and Susvara are a lot more $$!

Sundara and 400i both need EQ badly. Sundara is very bright from 3-9k, 400i is bright 7-9k, but is also in need of a bass boost under 100 Hz. The Sundara holds together well to 40 and is still useful at 30 Hz.

I have the new HE400i 2020, running it thru E1DA PowedDAC V2, and it has the most listening time to my other headphones. I have no issues with it atm. Oh, I have also changed the earpads since day one, to the alcantara version of YAXI Comfort TH900/610.

Eye candy.

I definitely want one of these! I always wanted to original HE-400, and then they made the 400i and 400S. (What's with sometimes letters being lowercased and sometimes letters being uppercased?! Drives me nuts personally.) Now they have this ultra-cheap version of the 400i, which, from my memory, was always considered to be the better of the two compared to the 400S if each was properly amped.

I've got a Sennheiser HD 600 and a Magni/Modi 2 Uber stack, which I'm very happy with, but these just seem like such a steal at this price that I might pick them up. I wonder how different they'll sound to my Sennheisers.

They are a great entry level experience to the planar magnetic world.
I am in the process of reviewing them.
Treble is surely better damped than the original versions.
Can't hear anything annoying or ear piercing , just a bit of artificial sound here and there.

I wonder if it would be possible to just purchase the headband and retrofit it on the older 400i?

I'm looking into buying my first headphones, I'm currently torn between the dt770s and dt990s and now these.
I like the 770s because they're closed back (and I kinda want the privacy, but if the sound quality is really worth it I'll switch to the 990s)

So here's my question, how would these compare to the dt770s or 990s since they're around the same price.
Thanks in advance for the help!
