With all the news of the HE-400 being able to be driven by an iPod/other portables, I thought that it might have a 3.5mm termination.

the HE500s were shipping with a 10ft silver cable and 3.5mm termination just 2 weeks ago, oddly enough they went back to the 1/4inch so its definitely possible the 400s will ship with the 3.5mm.

I doubt they would ship with 1/4'' unless specifically requested, otherwise the whole "made for DAPs, even an Ipod could drive it" sell-point would be pointless.

Speaking of CES, is anybody going to (or have they already) set up a CES news/impressions thread? Because that would be awesome. I think this year's CES is shaping up to be a pretty good year for headphones, and there's a couple of reveals I'm looking forward to, for certain.

I have yet to hear an ortho myself, but when I do, Sunn O))) will be one of my first listening tests.

A friend of mine will be at CES, and I specifically asked him for feedback regarding these phones (and any other he may express interest in) I'll post here with his comments once he's had a chance to listen in.
 
He's not exactly accustomed to high grade Head-Fi (He owns M-Audio Q40's), but if folks are dying for feedback, perhaps it will sate.

I was about to purchase the HD598's as my first home set, but after seeing all the talk about these, would you guys say I should get these instead? I know they cost more but I can afford it, and I saw in another review that these are way better than the 598's.
 
I'll mostly be using this set for gaming, movies, and listening to FLAC music on my desktop.
