Looking to pair an HE-500 with an amp:

- Hifiman EF-5

- Objective2 + ODAC

I've got some replies on the EF-5 so now I'm looking for some information on the Objective2 + ODAC + HE-500

Anyone using the HE-500 w/ 02+ODAC that can reach out and let me know if it's got enough power, and how it sounds?

I really like the EF-5. I have the original HE-5 that I pair it with. I do not have the O2 to compare. However I go back and fourth between the EF-5 and schiit lyr in terms of which I like best. The lyr has a better soundstage, but theres something unique and musical about the EF-5 that keeps me plugging it back in. I think you'd be happy with EF-5 if it is within your budget. I see them for ~250-275 used. New from amazon is $400. Well worth it in my oppinion.

I've never heard of O2. However, the E5 sounds very nice with my HE-500's.
I prefer something else with the HE-400 however.

I have no experience with the ODAC but if you search the forums theres plenty of thoughts on it. I've heard great things about the music streamer dacs. I believe they can be had for $150. That can be a great choice as well. Good luck and enjoy your gear once its all set up!

O2 powered HE6 so it should power HE500, but I did prefer the HE6 with a tube amp.

I have this combo and the volume knob is less than 9 o'clock for my listening volume with HE-500. Absolutely love the ODAC and O2 (got the integrated unit from JDSLabs), I say it definitely has enough power.

To my ears, the O2 has sufficient power for the HE-500s.  I have no other amp to compare to, so it's hard to tell whether these are being under-driven.  Per the link below, I'd say they are.

I've been looking at Garage 1217 amps as an upgrade.  The Project Sunrise II is said to have very good synergy the these cans.  I'm waiting for the Ember to be released before committing to anything.

Check out post #420 http://www.head-fi.org/t/629352/hifiman-he-500-on-a-speaker-amp-emotiva-mini-x-a-100-project/405.  O2 vs. Speaker Amp.

I am using a 3 year old x-can v8p. It has great synergy.

The O2 is a great amp for the HE-500. I recommend the Dacport LX as your Pure DAC Source. It will bring out better detail and sounstage for the He-500 IMO than the ODAC in which i previously experienced. The O2 is a very good amp but tomorrow i get to tryout the, the Hifiman EF-5.

So, how did the EF-5 compare to the O2?
