Can anyone explain the line out function?

The only cord I see on their site is USB-C to 3.5mm, and they call it coaxial but it just looks like a normal 3.5mm connector to my eyes. (Not at home to compare to actual connectors, but it appears the same).

I'm looking to feed the Atom Amp from the Hiby, if that can be achieved with the R4

Would be using the simple 3.5mm input of the Atom.

Deleted.

Reason - inaccurate information.

The USB-C to coaxial cable outputs SPDIF. And yes the 3.5 mm plug is the same size as an audio plug.

Hmmm

So the Atom DAC accepts SPDIF, but through optical.

Would there be a reasonable adapter I could use in conjunction with the R4 to feed the DAC the SPDIF signal?

The Atom Amp has a 3.5mm input but that wouldn't accept both analog input and digital SPDIF through the Hiby cable, surely?

I'm afraid I don't know. Perhaps others can help out.

I have used the USB-C to 3.5 SPDIF with my Mojo 2, but it has the correct jack. I have never tried to convert to optical. Sorry about that.

You should be able to use USB for this, correct? USB-C to USB-B?

The R4 does have a line-out function through the 3.5 mm but it's an analog signal and would go straight to an amp, not a separate DAC.

For the life of me, I don’t understand what I’m missing when trying to output, from the USB-C out, into another device. For instance, I’m trying to use the R4 as a streamer into a Woo Audio WA11 Topaz. The Topaz has an input USB-C, where I connect for anything else.

Any thoughts and/or ideas? I’ve tried using the supplied Hiby USB-C cable as well as another cable, I was advised to buy (inexpensive one on Amazon).

I use the R4 USB-C to my Modius E DAC for a source ( I do the same with the Sony A306 ). No setting changes on the R4. I just tried it in Pure Audio, but I have used Android mode also.

Thanks for the input.

3.5mm line out works, I suppose. That's what I have been doing; just been looking for a way to get a digital signal so i can utilize the Atom DAC as well as the Amp.

I could use USB except that it's hooked up to my desktop computer and is situated such that it's unwieldy to switch USB inputs on the back of the DAC on a daily basis.

(Use case is music listening while working at home on a work laptop; amp and DAC are connected to my personal desktop)

Woo Audio webpage has a link to a “Learn More” video on how to connect the Topaz to various sources, including Android.
They clearly show a (supplied?) OTG cable:

Your Anker cable is not OTG as far as I can tell…

I pretty sure there are coax SPDIF to Toslink converters out there, but they do require a power source for the optical. I just don't have any experience with them.
