I have been searching a dac for a long time and have been considering the following:
Oritek Zhaolu 600$ including tax
ECD1/DAC1 800$ used

I'm more and more into the thought that the DT990 isn't worth it. Don't get me wrong. I love it. It's just that there are better cans to pair with the DACs mentioned (D2000, HD650 maybe).

Appreciate your help.

I don't know anything about the DT990, but my HD650 and HP1000 are mind blowing on my TC-7510 DAC. However, since you already got a headamp, you have a wide choice of possible DACs without inbuilt headamps.

So what's the point here? OP is quite specific about which cans he wants to pair high end DAC with.

x2. One is beginning to think that the TC-7510 is the Swiss Army knife of audio equipment.

I bet MacGyver had one at his house.

The DAC1 is very, very good - crystal clear transparency and virtually zero noise floor. The headphone section is also very good. In short, highly recommended!

Ho, I like your system cansman, I love the Naim sound. Would you mind giving me a few comments of how the DAC1 plugged through your computer via USB compares versus your Naim CDP? Many thanks.

If you value smooth and musical presentation you won't be disappointed with ECD1. And the looks...

The point is that I own a set of HD650, which is one of the cans he is considering. I am making it clear that I can't agree or disagree with him with regards to the DT-990, but I can surely recommend the HD650 based on actual ownership.
Happy now?

what is it about the DT990s that make you think they're not worth it?

not a DT990 owner, but I have the DT880s (don't know how much worth this is to you)

but i do own the OMZ...

what kind of sound are you looking for in the DAC?

Well, i saw more and more ppl here saying d2000 are better than 990's in any aspect.
Though, i heard my 990's with Grace 902 and it was superb, and i guess those DACs are even better, so what the heck.. i'm sticking with my cans no matter what.

The sound i'm looking for is mure on the musicality side and not a technical one.
I'm looking for Wide soundstage and something to uplift my 990's mids.

And again, it must be among the three i mentioned.

well, the OMZ has a HUGE soundstage unfortunately I can't compare directly to the other 2, but you will not be dissapointed

as for the mid range fix sorry not sure. the OMZ is fleshed out but i wouldn't call it a very warm DAC, i dont know if it could help the DT990s,

but from what i read about the DAC1 its mids are not its strength, it is more on the leaner side and very technical/clinical sounding

don't know about the last one
