Creative Labs SB1240 on late 2011 MBP
Self built CMOY amp
 
Musical tastes:  Tool, NIN, 30 Seconds to Mars, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins, Daft Punk, and I also enjoy game soundtracks (the Total Annihilation soundtrack is in a class by itself)
 
I enjoy reading the reviews here, and am looking forward to contributing.

I'm looking to go to a higher quality headphone than my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro set.  I've been eyeing the new Philips Fidelio X1, Senn HD600, and Senn HD650.
 
Can anyone provide feedback on the difference that these would make?  Will they make much of a difference w/o a high quality amp?

Feel free to use beer analogies.  I'd say that the HD 280's are like Dos Equis Amber.

Shure 840's if you want a closed monitoring headphone, I'f you wanna jump all the way to the HD600's and have an open pair they are very good

The HD600s are a very good choice but you may also want to upgrade your amp.
