Somewhere around $7-9000. Depending on several factors like: where you sell, condition, luck, competition, ...

Geez.... what kind of person will pay this price? Probably some 25 year old noveau riche douchebag who read in a half-page Robb Report article that the Orpheus was the "ultimate headphone." Anybody on Head-Fi fit that description?

I'm sure it will end slightly above 25k.  Will be interesting. :)

Hey...I came darn close for predicting winning bid price.

The great thing about Sennheiser is that they will always provide repair service to the Orpheus combo given its age.

I take it you have never heard the Orpheus?  It's true, 8-10k PER Headphone.  The amp usually gets 6K.  So while the price looks astronomical for a lump sum (and for headphones), in terms of its potential resale even as separates, and also the quality of the listening experience -- I say, if you got cash and the inclination...

wasn't it just a few months ago where one pair of HE90 and the HEV-90 sold for like $24k or something? So this newer one wasn't too bad of a deal.

Can't remember the exact amount, but it was above 20k for sure.

Gotta love being a fan of metal and rock. No goal to buy a $23k amp+headphone combo

Well this pair does include 2 pairs of the HE-90.

And why would these not be good for metal and rock??

They are good but not great with rock.  The Orpheus system was designed with Classical and Jazz or anything vocal in mind.  Any great recordings will also sound superb through them.  Due to more relaxed and laid back presentation, it just doesn't give rock enough impact.  I'm not sure whether the OII does well with rock or not...but maybe its the limitation of electrostats.
