so, i ripped out the wires from my koss portapros while picking up groceries (LOL) the wires ripped from the headphones. i'm handy with a soldering iron so i cut wires from another pair of headphones, some sony mdrs and it sounds fine now through my reciever, my android, but NOT my iphone. once any excessive amount of bass kicks in, they distort. ONLY ON MY IPHONE. 
 
other headphones sound fine, like my monoprices. i am gotdang stumped. what could the problem be? they had worked fine before.

Is it an issue caused by the microphone capability? Was the PP the KTC model?

i fixed 'er! seems the connection to the left speaker was poorly soldered. resoldering it fixed the problem. thank you guys anyway. love ya.
