Hey guys! I'm really new to the audio scene. I got hooked listening to a friend's SE846 and decided to look around.
 
I listen mainly to mainstream music such as pop, rnb, kpop etc. with just a little bit of classicals. I intend to get a ibasso DX50 or DX90 when the 90 is out and i can compare the two.
 
I also intend to purchase a universal IEM, but which universal IEM should I be looking: SE535, SE846, W40, UE900, ath-im 04 or others?

Is there a reason you aren't considering a custom set? Also, are you looking for something that's more accurate, bass heavy, warm, etc...?

I was advised that for my first set of IEMs, I should perhaps look into universals? Its also more difficult to trial customs I think?
 
I don't really understand terms like what warm, accurate etc. means? I'm no basshead, but I like my bass, but not till such that they are muddy or cover the mids and highs of my musics. So far I have tried the SE535, 846 and W40 in addition to ath-im04 and UE900. The 535, 846 and W40 seems to impress me more, I hope that helps to explain my preferences.

I don't think there is any reason to get an IEM other than for noise isolation. For the price of an SE535 you can buy Shure's best over the ear headphone which will blow the SE535 away.

I live in Singapore, which being in the tropics, is really warm. I also tend to listen to music more while on the go, thus the choice of an iem over headphones. If im using it at home more often, no arguments, I'd agree with you hands down and get headphones

If you can afford it, I would just get the se846 that you like.

I cant afford it. Its too expensive. Im looking at around below usd 700-1000? Any good recommendations?

how much are se846's in Singapore? The thing is that headphones are very subjective so if you have one that you like, just save up and get that one. other wise you'll probably just get something that won't be as good and you'll waste time returning it etc.

It cost $1299, the se535, w40, ath-im04 and ue900 cost in the 700-780 region.

Oh. They're $999 here. Still, I would just save up and get them.

Anyone has recommendation for other iems? I think i'd prefer a natutal and balanced sounding one.
