E3s have a warmer, darker sound. It sounds more "musical" to some. ER-6is have more detail, and has a more analytical sound. If you prefer a dark, warm sound, get E3s. Otherwise, if you prefer detail, get ER-6is. Oh yea, E3s greatly benefit from a great EQ, ER-6is benefit from an amp.
