I own a Clip+ and Sony Walkman. my Walkman is by far better in SQ than my Clip+ Don't get me wrong I love my Clip+ it's the best thing since sliced bread. However the Sony Walkman series is top notch sound when wanting to avoid apple.

If you're really looking for sound quality and space the Cowon line is my suggestion. Despite what some user(s) think, the interface is fine to work with. Best I've used so far.
I've played around with a few Sansa products and while they are fantastic for the price, they do tend to get left int the dust by higher quality players.

If you're looking for high capacity, the the J3 can come with 8-32gb internal with the ability to add 32gb extra space with SDHC or 64gb with SDXC.
Plus the battery life is pretty nice too.

Cowon, Sansa, Sony, Samsung,...all sound excellent. The difference between all of them is battery life, cost, and features. Decide what features you value most, then buy the device that has what you like best.

I'll put this same answer in your other thread, the one on Anything But iPod.

The Fuze+ sounds the same as the Fuze and Clip+ however it has very poor navigation and should be avoided. The Clip Zip
is almost the same as the Clip+, except that the Clip Zip has a larger screen(LED vs oled in the Clip+) . The Clip Zip has an RDSradio, and support for unprotected AAC files. It also has a clock and stopwatch. The Clip Zip firmware still has some bugs.one other difference. The Clip Zip doesn't diplay the time elapsed for a song, just a progress bar. You can get around the firmware issues by Rockboxing it. After the Clip Zip came out, I decided to buy an extra Clip+ rather than buying a Clip Zip. Based on Sandisk's history of releasing new players, it seems likely that a new version of the Fuze will be out at the end end of August. I have the original Fuze, and am waiting for the new version of the Fuze. I avoided buying the Fuze+.

I owned the fuze+, and I agree. Avoid itvatvall costs. The SQ and volume are excellent, but navigation on the player is a NIGHTMARE!!!

should note the screen sizes.. it's not really larger, just a different shape  96x96 for the zip 128x64 for the clip +

I'd like to see a new version of the Fuze

The Clip Zip display is physically larger than the one on the Clip+. The resolution of the Clip Zip screen is low.

If I'm not mistaked, they can all be rockboxed, so putting menu navigation aside, which Sandisk player would you recommend in the end? Also, they come in veriety of capacity, except that they're not different?

The screen res isn't.. low. It's just a different type of screen. OLED. Allowing for really high contrast. There is no way the clip zip is easier to read. The screen might be aesthetically more pleasing.

The fuze Plus cannot be rockboxed.

Get the Clip Zip or Clip+ with a high capacity microSD card of your choice. They sound pretty much the same but the Zip has some more features. Both can be Rockbox'd and even though the Rockbox site says the Zip is still unstable I haven't had any issues with it.

I run Rhapsody on my Clip Zip. I haven't had any problems with the original firmware. Just in case you don't want to play with RB, though I haven't heard of any complaints with rockbox, I don't think I could use Rhapsody with it. If Sansa comes out with a great replacement for the Fuze+ I may get it, but am very content with the Zip as well as the possibilities the sd slot allows if I decide to ditch Rhapsody and download my CD collection again.
