Help me build a rig around my DT880, budget 500$

Has anyone tried the Mini3 with the DT880s? IF so how much better/worse is it than some of the pricier amps such as the LittleDotIII and Corda Arietta?

I used to have a Central Station. If I recall, the Central Station has an external power supply. You should be able to buy a 220V supply and connect it with little trouble.

PreSonus sells worldwide - you should be able to find a local, or at least European, dealer that can set you up.

And yes, I think they're terrific. I've moved on to (and obsess over) vacuum tubes these days, but the PreSonus has a terrific DAC and the headphone section is powerful enough to drive the K-1000. You'd have a hard time finding a better amp and source for the price.

whee thread necromancy!

ahem. DT880s are very picky about amplification. If you get the wrong amp they will show their displeasure by blasting your ears with screeching high-frequency death waves.

As far as DAC goes, doesn't get much better than the ibasso D3. It is portable and also has an amp built in, but I only use it for DAC, and it sounds wonderful. About $200 new. My amp is a Little Dot Mk IV, which I love with the dt 880s but you said that you don't want tubes.

What would you suggest for a solid state "warm amp", that's not going to kill my bank account. (I know I know....sorry about my wallet). Hopefully with great DT880 synergy.

M3, PPA, CK2III, Corda, others?

My brother's running his dt880 off a mini3, and he seems to be very satisfied with it =)

Maybe try a darkvoice 337, According to the darkvoice 337 review thread, it matched with dt880 very well.

Well, I've bit the bullet, and I've gone ahead and purchased an EMU 0404 USB as my source (sounds great BTW), and a Little Dot MK III. Still waiting for the little dot in the mail, but they tend to get glowing reviews around here; especially when paired up with the DT880s.

With respect to electronica specifially, I've also heard great things about the Little Dot.

Total cost for this setup is:

EMU 0404 USB = $200
Little Dot MK III = $200
DT880 = $180 (used off ebay)

That's a nice $580. Of course, if you're from Canada like me, the POS Canadian dollar, taxes, and of course the shaft up the ***** american duty charges makes that more like $810. Total ripoff, but what can you do?

I'll report how my setup sounds when I've got all the pieces together, with some decent burn-in. Cheers mates.

The DT880/2003 fare very well with the Darkvoice 336i; and I think that the Beyers, in general, benefit from tubes "somewhere" along the way.

They also sound superb with the Darkvoice 337 and Bada PH-12, both of which tend out of your budget, though.

Okiedokie

My system is now setup.

It goes like this:

Foobar2000 CD (ASIO drivers) -> E-MU 0404 USB -> Little Dot MK III -> DT880s (2005 ver).

All I have to say is holy freaking wow. After I purchase a ground loop isolator I think I'll be in heaven.

Anyone who tells you that the Dt880s don't have bass is literally on crack. Maybe if you listen to Dt770s or Darth Beyers constantly, but the Dt880s absolutely destroy the bass in my Grado SR225s (which nobody ever complains about).

Throw on some drum and bass and tell me your ear doesn't resonate with the sound; cuz it will.
