Buy a Sony EX81, $30 at Amazon. It's about as comfortable as anything is, it'll give you some isolation from the TV sound, and it's available in your choice of white or black.

Not to confuse you but get some Etymotic ER6i's.

What am I doing ?

I am thinking closed headphones which must be comfortable - sounding good is a must although I am no audiophile (or any other type pf 'phile' for that matter).

ooh I got soo close then maybe not ! I was close to ordering the Sennheiser HD485 then I read they suffered from too much base.

For my Ipod is this the case? Can my ipod drive these big cans ok ?

Any other completely over the ear jobbies I should take a look at ?

PX100 would be good, and I don't recall them leaking to that degree, but as someone said, it's not a great idea to use them to drown out the TV.

I prefer the PX200 to the PX100 for sound quality. You'll also get the benefit of a bit of isolation and they don't leak sound.

The other option in this range is the Shure E2. I think they're more comfortable than the PX200 and on par with the PX100 (though the differences in overall comfort among these 3 are slight IME/IMO). The PX200 has better sound quality than the E2, but the E2 is a bit warmer and more musical and offers much better isolation.

If you want completely over the ear jobbies that can be driven well by the iPod, then I second (or third, whatever) the earlier post suggesting the A500. (Caveat: I am an A900 owner, but haven't actually tried an A500.)

My only issue with the IEMs would be that if the wife has a comment or you wanna hear whats on the tube or what have you the 500s can just be pulled off one ear and then replaced with ease. The IEMs will be easy removal but tossing them back in will be much more hassle. (That's not to say that they are terrible to get back in, but they will be moreso than the a500s).

For me as well "chilling" to music in the house with a nice big set of comfy closed headphones as opposed to IEMs would be a signifigant difference in overall enjoyment, especially as a "non-audiophile" you may not appreciate the details and pros of IEMs over the benefits found in the a500s.

That is, of course, you aren't looking to dual-use this purchase for portability, whereas the IEMs are perfect and the a500s are almost unusable.

Only to listen in the house? Want isolation and sound quality at a cheap price?

I would say go for the Sennheiser HD280pro at around €100 (can maybe be found for less)

Will sound better than IEMs and less of a hassle to get on and off your head.

My ex-girlfriend used to watch Charmed and Smallville. I just hung out with her less.
