i need help finding some new music... judging by the tastes expressed here, this is a good place to start!
genre: i'm open to anything: metal, opera, classical, modern, oldies, rap, country, rock, ambient, electronica, experimental, pop, etc.
as long as the artist has:
music over lyrics: i forgot this one when i first posted. i don't really care about what the song is about, and would rather hear good music over bad lyrics than vice versa.
originality: no pop stars that sound like everyone else (bsb, in sync, etc).
good musicianship: i prefer artists that play their own instruments and do it very well, like steeley dan or the smiths. if they sound as good live as they do in the studio that is a plus.
production values: i prefer recordings that have very good production. that means clear, interesting, full frequency recordings with a personality, and NO OVERCOMPRESSION!
headphone friendliness: i do most of my listening on headphones, so keep the "hard-right hard-left" recordings to a minimum.
i tend to gravitate towards the mellower side of music, brian eno, stereolab, dead can dance, etc. but i also have metallica and led zep in my collection too. my favorite current band is stereolab, their latest "sound dust" is a must-have for headphone music.
if anyone has any suggestions for me for new music, please include the artist's name and the name of a good song from them.
thanks!!
