Hello,

Here is My question i listen most 70's rock,70's krautrock, jazzrock and progrock (Most of my albums are Wav files) so i wander is it a good combination Grado 225i with my cowon D2 ?? Or is it better with the SR325is or SR60i or SR80i...

Thanks for helping me out...

Out of the D2, I'd go with the SR80i and save the rest for music. The 225i needs a better source and amp to get the best out of it, and I doubt that the 225i and 80i would be that big of a difference on the D2.

I have the D2 and SR80I - sounds great (my music is encoded with FLAC and OGG at 450Mbs variable rate). If the impedence of the 225 is the same as the SR80 (32ohm) then no problem with the 225 - just a matter of more $$

I'd get the 225i and save for a nice portable amp. I've got an SR225 powered by a TTVJ Millett portable hybrid with a Cowon X5L for a source, and they sound great. Unlike lots of high-end 'phones, they'll work just fine out of a portable player, and it's nice to have room to grow...you might not want an amp now, but if you hang around here, you'll be upgrading before you know it...

The one thing would be that the 225i would need a 1/4">18" adapter, because it's got the full-size plug.

There've been a lot of 225(i)'s on the FS forum lately...you might be able to get a pair for not too much more than a pair of 80i's.

Yeah, if you have a nice home amp (AFAIK Rotel is quite nice) then it would definitely be worth it to go with the 225i. And even a CMOY would do quite nicely to power the Grados, they don't ask for much!

EDIT: By the way, you might want to update your signature or your profile with all of your equipment so members can get a better idea of what to recommend.

instead of making a new thread, can i piggy back on this one?

im looking at the same line of Grado's too, but i also have the Audio Technica ATH-ESW9A.

I have a pair of their AD700's for primary home use (since theyre huge and purple) but i still want a pair of over the ear that are portable-ish.

ive been wanting to try Grado's for years but then i came across the Audio line and i love the looks of them as well as their performance.

D2+ with an amp on the list as well.

Not sure what your question is really, but Grados are neither over the ear nor very portable at all.

over the ear as in not IEM's. and portable as in i won't get AS many looks on a train if i had them on versus the Technicas.

I used the sr225 out of my D2 for a couple of months. The PMP could drive the headphones well enough. The only advantage I saw after getting the ld I+ amplifier was having a dedicated volume control, sound didn't change much (if any)

Ive used the cowon d2 with an SR60 and sr225.
Cowon is a relatively powerful pmp and has no problems pushing the sr225.
But, if I may add, an amp will bring out better results with the sr225, albeit subtle.
