I'm trying to decide between the M50s, DT770s, etc.

The price of the DT770s is really going to mount up if I have to spend 50% of the price of the headphones or more on a DAC and amp etc, so I dunno if that's worth it. I can get the M50s for about $140 on eBay, whereas the DT770s with an amp+DAC like the fiio e10 will cost me about $290 in total. Is it really worth twice the price of the M50s?

My PC has a lineout and I don't notice any hissing or electrical noise on my current headphones. I only intend to use the headphones on this PC.

Do I need an amp and a DAC? Are there any headphones similar to the quality and price of the DT770s and better than the M50s that don't require an amp?

Thanks.

Save a few dollars.

Gemini HSR-1000 (Takstar Pro 80), sells on eBay for $50, I paid $68 for mine.

Asus Xonar DG (PCI) sound card, $30 and there is a $10 mail in rebate this month.
(comes with a basic headphone amp

So, far around a total of $70, you have headphone audio.
