What kind of music do you listen to, and what sound signature do you like? Headphones is more important than you source gear. Headphones > amp > DAC.

i dont think you should get a DAC. not unless you heard mud, hissing or even distortion. as I have an entry level motherboard, I heard hissing and mud. so I bought an asus xonar u5.

A clean DAC can really make a difference from stock gear (motherboard, phone). Even a cheap one like the Stoner Acoustics UD120 is awesome.

I know. but for people that are on a serious budget, if they have a good motherboard, they shouldnt worry that much about dacs. but for me, I can literally hear hissing and I get a muddy sound. so I'd say get one because only enthusiast gaming boards comes with high end on board audio.

Music...mostly electronic rock and classic, but sometimes is like Dream theater (combines rock and classic)..
The laptop is a hp g6 2228nr and a msi gt72s.

I want a budget dac/amp and another more for the go o better specs.

What sound signature do you prefer? What headphones have you owned in the past, and what did you think of them?

closed back headphones beats studio 2.0 as a gift, i like the sound but in higher volumen get to noisy, confusing....so in mid volumen sound perfect. My earing is pretty good, so maybe more neutral sound.....

I'd check out the InnerFidelity Wall of Fame and http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-58-headphones-compared.

AKG K712/K7XX, Beyerdynamic DT880, Sennhesier HD600/HD650/HD700, Audeze EL-8O or used LCD-2, ZMF Vibro, OPPO PM3/2, Mr. Speakers Alpha Dog, Sony Z7... the list goes on.
