Spend $400 on Loudspeakers or $400 on headphones, why does it feel different? Basically they're both speakers right? Yet it seem to be hard to drop major coin on headphones.  Why?

To me, it's cuz you can listen to loudspeakers with other people, so some of the money is going to creating an environment to share.  If YOU don't get 400$ worth of happiness from listening to headphones, then it's a waste of money.  On the other hand, 400$ headphones offer up a lot better sound than 400$ speakers.

True that loudspeakers can be a shared. And you're right, it doesn't really matter how much you spend, it's about the experience.  But yet some really feel that $400+ is too much for headphones.
