I say the Stax Lambda Pro.
Excellent pair of headphones, that will give the more expensive ones a really good fight.

I bought a pair just two weeks ago for $270.00

Well, I've never worn a V6, so i dunno what to say. They beat a V600 to death and throw it's corpse on a compost pile.

The skinny is, while not as comfortable as a DT770 (or presumably as comfortable as a V6 with beyer pads), they have pretty much the same bass punch as a DT770 Pro/80 with maybe slightly less extension. They have crisper, clearer mids than a DT770, and about the same highs.

Overall the DT770 sounded more "warm" where the RP-21 sounded more "neutral".

Good deals depending on taste/preferences and what kind of music one listens to:

Grado SR225

Sennheiser HD580

AKG K501

Alessandro MS-1 (ok, its just 99$, but close enough!)

Alessandro MS-2

Ultrasone Proline 650

Hd 580 is one of the best bargain if you like the sennheiser sound. If you prefer the grado sound... well... the more you pay, the more you get. There's no real "bargain" with grado/alessandro headphones since models don't tend to change often.

I was able to get a used rs-2 in perfect condition for $250. I thought that was a pretty freaking good deal!

used is potentially always greater bang for the buck than new. Depending on how much thread reading, searching, and tweaking you want to do, of course. There are a bunch of very pleasing vintage dynamics that sell for under $100, not to mention orthodynamics and, as has been mentioned above, certain vintage electrostats.

For me it was definiatly my Proline 750 which was roughly 270 buck all in all for me.

I honestly feel they sound so much better then A900 and DT 770 at 160$ that they offer better bang for the buck.

Sometimes it's enough for them to be NOS - at least two Team Ortho members have scored NOS MK1 Fostex T40's for $30ish in the last month or so.

Agreed about the K601, and add the HD580 and HD600 to that list.

The AD700 is a wonderful value at just over $100 if one likes the AT house sound.

Hd595 (I dont know what the minimum price is, but I got it roughly 8 months ago for 199$ at HR)

Didn't think of this one, but not a bad suggestion.
