Headphone Tube Amps - The hunt for all 300B TUBE AMPS
Mar 20, 2023 at 10:40 AM Post #2,102 of 2,843
I am only interested in purchasing directly from the manufacturer and I am not interested in purchasing Elrog ER300B tubes from an individual as there is no 1 year manufacturer-guaranteed warranty applicable to a second-hand buyer.

Jeff.
Then get in contact with Thomas, and treat yourself to some Elrogs.

Interesting. Are they more similar to the 45 in structure and sound but have the specs of a standard 300B?

Also, my amp currently uses AC power and Elrog recommends DC only for their tubes. So I would have to upgrade my amp before I can use Elrog tubes.

Curious where you read this? May just be a sound quality recommendation as opposed to an actual functionality issue since using AC filaments spits a bunch of 60Hz harmonics into the audio signal, but I've never heard of a DHT that actually required DC over AC.

I heard it from the people at Elrog. Here is what they said.

"if I am not mistaken, the Botthead uses AC on the filaments. We do not recommend our tubes to be AC heated.
We use thoriated tungsten for the filaments which is responsible for the special sound of our tubes. But thoriated tungsten is more sensitive and using them with AC will result in about 6dB more residual hum compared to other 300Bs"

Right, so I would call that a suggestion as opposed to a requirement. You can use them with your Kaiju before upgrading, there may just be a higher noise floor.

If I want to purchase a pair of Elrog ER300B tubes should I place an order directly with the manufacturer in Germany even though I live in the USA?

Are they readily available and what is their present-day price if ordered directly from the manufacturer in Germany?

Jeff.
You may order from PCX until their stock is sold out.

Anyone have a dead 300B available?
Kevin Gilmore needs help with donations as he brings the MegatronV2 with 4 x 300b with 4 x 6ca7 as current source. Can you say CRAZY.

That sounds like an endgame project.
Anywhere we can follow this?

Dead? No. Sacrificial? Maybe. I might be willing to part with sone old stock PS Vane that are still functional, but terrible tubes...

Considering the man designed my KGGG it's the least I could do.

this was supposed to be kept quiet. i should have said that in the pm. ah well.
need a working filament to test new filament circuit. don't care if the grid is shorted or the plate has holes in it.

and i will neither confirm nor deny the existence of the megatron2.

Ah. Disregard. Need broken tubes for broken amp not for the madness of MT2 which never exists. Inevitably.
