I'll be interested in reading your updated thoughts, theres a pair of lightly used takats locally going at a somewhat nice price, would be nice to have an alternate pair of 300b

Uh I mean ELROG forever don't cancel my cult membership

How would you describe the difference?
It is actually a stark difference to my ears. I used the Melz 1578 for comparison sake.

The MOs sound more open, better instrument separation, more extended on both ends, more treble energy while keeping the grunt, increased detailed.

At first I thought it was going to be a small imperceptible change due to the molybdenum metal plate being the main difference that I saw. When I initially started using the MOs before break in, they sounded raw and a slightly harsh at times. This all smoothed out wonderfully after 50-100 hours of use. Now it retains the wonderful extension on the treble but without sounding harsh at all (Susvara).

Honestly, the ERs sound congested/muddy/closed in/less extended in comparison. Like @paradoxper said the ERs have an inner sweetness in the midrange which is beautifully put. I feel the MOs can be matched with different tubes that can accentuate the mid range if you want.

I am very impressed and surprised by the MOs in my chain. I was skeptical at first.

Elrog ER and Elrog Mo
Ain't that enough for alternatives?

(The correct answer is obviously: no we need also Elrog TM300B)

We need it to complete the trinity. The unattainable TM. Will need to upgrade my sacrifice game. These chickens aren't working out.

@paradoxper Can you regale us with some TM stories? More impressions high priest. :eye::eye:

Just got myself a Cary CAD-300SEI. It uses a single 6SN7 as a driver. It came with Elecro-Harmonics.

Any suggestions on something else I should try?

Thanks.

Melz ($$$) or Foton ($) is quite nice in the 6SN7/6N8S category

WE300BER274.jpg

What I got in the mail today. Found good deals for both - 280€ for used ER274B (ebay) and 1590€ for new WE300b (audioconcept.se) , latter including taxes and shipping. Edit: seems like the shop bumped up their prices after that.

This has me thinking you could put one of those patterned candle covers around the Elrogs to project various shapes around the room.
Such as this;

The Linlai 300B-T has an unusual combination of mesh plates and semitransparent black spray coating.

Those look nice. And much cheaper than any of the other new production 300B tubes on the market. Any idea of the reliability?

After 3 months I swapped the Elrog 300B with a pair of 60s vintage Western Electric 300B in Fostex HP-V8 and immediately stunned and immensed in music for hours. While Elrog is the God of current production 300B, the vintage WE300B is simply playing its own game with non-comparable mid and decay with perfectly extended high and low, which is exactly the addictive 300B sound an audiophile will die for.

The current production WE300B is great but the vintage one is legendary and sounds much superior. Understand that finding a good pair at reasonable price is more and more difficult but if you have this luck, don't hesitate and you shall know where all the fames of 300B coming from.

Got them in at last! My goodness I had forgotten just how good these Takatsuki’s are! No glow like the Elrog’s though 👎. As has been mentioned previously, slightly drier/analytical sound, but oh so good. They shall be staying in for a while.
