Under $200 the Philips Fidelio X2HR are among the best you'll find. If you see the X3 on sale at budget go for it, as it's an improvement, but not night and day. The next step up (in my experience) is going to run you ~$500 used, ~$1000 new.
Try the Hifiman 400i 2020. It has a dry, punchy bass but is still neutral enough for Jazz. It has a lot of potential the stronger the amp is and if possible use a symmetric cable. Costs 200.- but compeats with headphones for 600-700.- easily.

Eh. If you're going to spend that much just get the Sundara. HE4xx (400,4XX,400 2020, 400 SE, etc) are mediocre at best. Buy Sundaras, save up a little more for HE560vX, or just... Get better planars for the money from someone else.
The 400i 2020 is not only in soundquality an evolution in comparison to the Sundara -maybe that is question of personal taste- but it is a clear evolution in comfort an workmanship.
Hey all, my old headphones gave up on me after 3 good years and I would like to upgrade! My budget is max 200-250 and like I described in the title I would like the headphones to be suited for jazz/hiphop/lofi. I have a simple FiiO olympus 2 DAC/AMP already so I hope this will be good enough? I don't mind the looks as I'll be wearing them inside at all times. However comfort has to be good because I'll be wearing them for long periods of time! This is what I found through research thus far:
- DT770 pro (80 ohm i think is best?)
- DT990 pro (80 ohm i think is best?)
- Sennheiser HD 560s
- Sennheiser HD58x
- grado SR80e
- grado SR325e
- hifiman HE400i
If u have any other recommandations or tips please do share! Thanks!
The grado SR325e are good for jazz. They like instruments and allow wind instruments such as trumpets to soar beautifully, piano keys to hit well, and it loves string instruments. I would not recommend them for hip hop though. You need some warmth and a good amount of base for that genre. The 325e is more bright rather than warm to my ears, and although it can do base I think hip-hop would be better served by something else. Sennheiser are normally pretty good for hip-hop, but I donāt have any experience of the ones you listed.
