Although HD595 is 50-ohm and my source's power is 150 mW/CH @ 60 Ohm Load, the output sound is still weak. Bright with almost no bass which hurts my ears. So annoying

Will a headphone amplifier like this solve my problem? If yes, please recommend me a good one around $100-200.

No.
The HD595 are known to have poor bass and high frequencies. A headphone amplifier won't do much in powering those drivers and it will only color the sound IMO.

These are not very good headphones and for the price tag you can get much better cans. For bass, I'd go for the Denon's.

x2

The HD595 doesn't need amplification and another headphone amp won't drastically change the sound of those cans. If you don't like them - sell them and buy a new pair which suites you better.

I'm using the Hifiman EF2 DAC/amp with my HD 595 right now. Nice combo IMO.

The HD 595 isn't really bass-heavy but I really do think proper amplification brings out better and more detailed bass. It's a Tube amplifier and to me the warm tube sound is a good combination with the sound characteristics of the HD 595.

Oh and BTW $189 is a nice price too! You can always upgrade your headphones later.

Well I owned those cans for two years or so and most of the time I didn't really like them.
IMHO they are boring as hell, lack any kind of "intimacy" and they don't know how to kick.
Altogether I wouldn't recommend those cans - especially not for $190.

@P.J: If you don't like them at all without proper amplification - don't waste your money by buying a headphone amp! Sell the HD595 and look further, there are plenty of other good phones.

best regards.

What do you suggest? Considering open headphones.

Ummm... that depends solely on your taste!? I don't have a clue how you like your music.
Take your time and lurk around here on head-fi... but the best thing you can do is check the next store near you which sells headphones and listen to as many headphones as you can.

After some time with the HD595 and two meets, I eventually knew that I like my music intimate and with nice and present vocals. I bought some Grado SR-225 sold them after half a year and got myself a pair of Audio Technica W100s... and I love them!

'really really good' ? Man, that settles it - I'm selling the rest of my phones and investing in a set of these bad boys ! Who cares what those who sell them have to say..

Sennheiser: HD595 | Headphonic: Australian Headphone Specialists: Buy Etymotic, Alessandro, Audio Technica, Ultimate Ears, Talisman, Meier Audio and more

Unusually, for a Sennheiser model, they have a slightly harsh and slightly cold sound with odd, almost faulty sounding, bass response making them a difficult headphone to recommend.

Yes, but they're expensive. I thought HD595 is good and it's not cheap too

What about HD650 and SA5000?

They do warm up with an amp, but as others have said you'd be much better selling them and looking for something else if you're not liking the sound. I still have a pair lying around and find them terribly boring and lacking any high end or sub bass.

The HD580/600/650 is more worth it to amp. However, it will require an amp worth much more than the cans itself to drive them properly. The HD595 isn't necessarily a bad can. It's a great beginner gateway can that doesn't need an amp. You can really appreciate other much better cans that way.

It depends on how much you want to spend. 100-200 on top of the sell cost of the HD595 perhaps? And do you want to amp it or not?

I'm going to hijack this to a degree, as much as i like my Sennheiser Hd 595's im thinking of upgrading like the op. OP if you want to save money buy from the USA atm because the exchange rate ****s all over what headphones.com.au is offering.

I think we should both go to JB Hi-Fi and take some music to test the cans.. but then again cans can sound really different with a proper amplification source.
