It's like the difference between someone buying a speaker system that has a vinyl finish over MDF, vs someone who is willing to spend nearly 70% more and get wood veneer over the same MDF.

In the case of the phones; there IS a possibility of an improvement in SQ beyond a simple change in appearance.

The speakers simply look better.

Speaking just for me; I'd feel a whole lot better spending $300 to get my cans woodied, than to spend an extra $2,000 to get my speakers looking the same.
