I felt the SR Reds gave a worthwhile improvement at both input and output of my BHSE (and better than the AMR fuses that they replaced,which themselves were better than stock). Shame for my wallet that there are 4 fuses in total.
Yes, they are directional - even in the AC input, which every engineer knows is impossible. I can't explain it, but I can certainly hear it - or did at the time before selling all my electrostatic gear in a downsizing exercise.

Since then, with only one fuse now in my entire hifi system, I felt the SR Blue was even more obviously directional in the AC input of my high end power supply.
As usual, YMMV and different people have different reactions to such things.

The fact that fuses carrying AC current could be directional, whilst the current changes direction 50 (or 60) times par second, is puzzling. Maybe a person from world authorities of scientists (e.g., Kelvin Gilmore), could explain that fact?

PSVANE EL34 PH users experienced reliability problems in the past. Are these problems fixed now? Your experience will be useful to BHSE owners --original Philips EL34 are difficult to find!

I have a set of these that I bought about six months ago now.. I think I'd have to look back. The build quality issues talked about in the past are not present in my tubes, long term reliability is still a question obviously.

The unit I had for 3 weeks was brand new in the box zero hour.
I put 100 hours on it, and it already showed evidence of heat issues.

I just received (Shipped from AliExpres - China) a (supposed) matched set of EL34. I am testing them now (to determine how I built the 2 "matched" pairs) and will do 2 days of burning before I compare them to the Stock Mullard that were shipped with my BHSE.

I will therefore report first listening impression in few days... (along with the listening result of my new CuriousCable USB cable)





After 1h30 of warm-up, I have the following results. Is it good or not ? how should I match them to built the 2 pairs ?

After 20 hours of warm-up of the EL34, the values have evolved a bit. I will apair 1 with 3 and 2 with 4 to built the 2 pairs.

This evening I will stop the testing and insert the new tube into the BHSE...

Now if you are up for more testing after this pick up the Sophia electric el34. I don't think anyone has run those

I didn't think tube rolling could have that dramatic of a difference running nos xf2 oo getters Great Britain Mullards xf3/4 dd getters Amperex from Holland.... Then I changed over to nos xf1 oo getters with the large dark brown bases... It's like an entirely different amp. Super curious about the metal plate Hollands now.... With due time I'll buy a nos quad to try.

yes they are (supposed) to reduce vibrations and therefore lower noise and improve clarity. But... it is very subtil (to say the least )

What are the recommended and minimum distances between the PSU and amp when sitting next to each other? I want to get a desktop stand for it with my (relatively smallish) DAC sitting on the desk and BHSE on top. Something like this:

This is 23.75" wide which seems like I could get 1.5", maybe 2" between the units depending on how close to edge of the stand I place the feet. That does not seem sufficient. 23.75" seems to be a standard width for these types of shelves. I've seen a few of them online.

Anyone have a recommendation on a stand that may be a little taller that could accommodate the PSU on the desk and just the amp on top? Something with a 20" opening would be enough for the PSU and DAC on the desk and amp up top.

an inch or two should be fine the hot air will roll off of the fins and then want to move up.
