Match made in steam punk heaven. Think my DAC just burned in a bit as suddenly hearing much more on low end and richer sound overall.

Are those tubes the famous Philips holland 1955 metal base ?  how does those "dampers" on the tube help with the SQ ?

Update: We're at the very end now of shipping on BHSE batch #4. At this point, amps assembled mostly do not match the orders that remain, for a variety of reasons. So, a lot of switching around of panel colors and voltages to match the combination ordered (i think i had posted previously that there are 24 combinations). The last of batch #4 will be shipped over the next few weeks. There may still be some payment requests for an amp in batch #4, but that will have to wait until I see what remains. Meanwhile, we are working on the assembly on batch #5 right now to begin shipping early Fall.

Does this mean it's pretty much pot luck on the color BHSE we'll be receiving regardless of the color ordered?

no, i should have everything. for example, i believe you asked for the "dark silver". the gray ones that came in too light. So, i have a tray of those panels, and now i figure out which already assembled amp that should go onto. Maybe it's purple. But maybe there's someone waiting for that purple so i can't do that. So maybe it's black. But maybe the black one has the wrong volume control.

Now i know why companies charge for options :) just going to take a little extra time to get the last ones sorted out.

Thanks for the clarification.
Yes, I did ask for "dark silver".

Greetings!

Questions for the forum.  What fuses in both the power supply and amp does the BHSE take?  Size, rating and slow vs fast blow.

Can anyone post or send pictures of the back of the unit.  I star ground my components.   Want to see if I need spade or RCA since I use XLR.  I would star ground both components.

Regards,

John.

What has everyone been getting in terms of tube life with this amp? I just destroyed a set of sed winged C in what had to be less than 400 hours. I'm guessing the voltage and heat are more intense than most amps.

Excellent.  So if I star ground the power supply, I can use a spade cable and the screw above the headphone symbol on the right side, rear.

Do you know the 4 fuse specs?  size, rating and blow speed?

Thanks!

Heat is moderate at best, and it runs the el34 safely under its operating limits. From what I have heard about sed winged c is that your experience is not uncommon. A good quality real el34 should last several years.

I had thought these were real! My understanding was that the sed was a pretty good tube but now that I have the mullards back in though I really like them. I'll have to look into other options I guess.

I found this quad of Philips EL34 metal base, but I have 2 questions about them:

- Those are BROWN base.  I heard that there are also some BLACK base "Philips EL34 metal base".  Is it correct ? Which version is the best ? what is the difference in sound ?

- Only 2 of the 4 are marked "made in holland".  Does that mean that the 2 others are not in the same league and are not the famous  "Magic" Philips holland EL34 Metal base that are supposed to be the graal for BHSE ?

thanks in advance
