how about a top-of-the line marantz sacd player (I.e., they sell for about 4k). Would such a source be able to hold water with the bhse/sr009 combo?

A thought, if you are in the US, maybe you can find an Playback Designs MPS-5 unit somewhere to try, it's all in one. I think that would be a nice match for the BHSE/SR009, however I haven't heard them together.

Batch 3/4 update - I checked in w/ the assembly company, and 1/2 of the amp PCBs for this batch are now ready.  that's 142 hours logged on that board alone (there are a total of 9 circuit boards, and that is easily the biggest one)

I'm curious, with the small quantities, are the boards hand stuffed and soldered?  I recall seeing a picture of your two helpers pulling together the final assembly of batch 2.  Will you be doing the same for this larger batch, or are you able to outsource more of the work?  I'm amazed you are able to pull all of this together - a third time.

yes, the boards are hand soldered.  for the resistor values to be facing up (they are not color coded) the resistors have to be hand bent so i cant buy them on the reels.  Some companies would probably put in all the resistors, caps, and transistors, and wave solder it, but the shop i have locally doesn't have that capability.  so maybe takes an additional 20 minutes per board.  they will be doing more assembly this time

Hi Justin,
I'm curious what kind of final testing you do before you send the unites out the door.

This guy looks a little wild, but you gotta love all the technology he has to play with . .

they run for 1 week and are turned off/on with various amounts of cool-off periods inbetween (sometimes a few seconds, sometimes 12 hours).  then they get checked on the scope one more time before shipping.
