On the 15th September there's a UK Head-fi meeting in Cambridgeshire to which I'm going along with IanG and I think a couple other lads. There'll be a lot of different audio gear to listen to but anyone can bring their own. Because of that I'm going to [ with the help of Ian ] bring my 009's + BHSE + Source. For me this will be my first Head-fi meeting so I'm looking forward to seeing other headfiers and also hearing  some of the headphones available.
 
P.S. I'm also taking my iPod + Pico Slim + Grado PS500's. I've put new ear pads on the PS500's to make them more comfortable.

Are you absolutely sure you are going to bring the US$20K and 31kg Esoteric K-01 with you to a meet??? I wouldn't do that except if the meet place is my home.

I suppose I am apprehensive about taking my K-01, but I'm interested to hear what others think about the combo of 009's + BHSE + K-01. I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do but I'll see how I feel when the time gets nearer.

Why, last DC meet we had 3 BHSE + 2 SR - 007 mk1 + Sr - 009 and everything was just fine.

I've decided not to take my K-01 to that UK meeting but I've been told by Andy that a K-01 will be there. I am however still taking my BHSE + SR-009's and I have a cable that allows me to use my iPod with the BHSE which I'll also be taking along. The good thing about that is anyone at the meeting with an iPod will be able to hear their music via my BHSE + 009's.

While the SQ using my iPod with the BHSE + 009 isn't at the same level as when using the K-01, the SQ is still pretty good, but the volume knob has to be about 3 - 4 o'clock on the BHSE. Well before I got the BHSE, I decided to have a cable made which would allow me to use my Pico Slim with my K-01 and the SQ from the Shure se535's + Pico Slim + K-01 combo is amazing. That cable has two RCA's to female mini jack plug. Like I say using an iPod instead of the K-01 still gives very good SQ, but it will allow those with their iPods to hear their music via the BHSE + 009's.

At least add a CLAS or HP-P1. It is an insult to BHSE and SR009 using iPod, IMHO.

Please try an iPod with the BHSE + 009's, I think you'll be quite surprised. But an insult, why not an iPod.

Here are two photos of how I'm able to use my iPod with the BHSE + 009's. I got the cable from ALO Audio and under my iPod is my Pico Slim. 
The reason why I decided to try my iPod with the BHSE + 009's, is because there are a few songs on it I haven't got on CD.
I've been listening to the BHSE + 009 + iPod combo for a couple hours today and I've a feeling those at the UK head-fi meeting that do have a listen to that combo, won't be disappointed with the SQ.

I agree it probably doesn't sound bad but that's a rather severe truncation of data, right there at the source. For me, the source often makes or brakes the magic and, while I may like what I hear, I've never had goose bumps from an ipod analog out driven rig.

If you're trying to accomodate ipod users, the least you could do is bypass the internal dac and esp. preamp by using something like a clas. It may even be cheaper than some of these fancy cables lol.

Yes I'm daft, but I've just done another comparison between my iPod and my K-01 with the BHSE + 009's, but this time I only listened to one of my Albums " The Best of R.E.M. in Time 1988 - 2003 " and the iPod can't compete with the K-01 but if I was only able to listen to the BHSE + 009 + iPod combo I'd still be very happy. Those that doubt what I'm saying, please if you get the chance have a listen.
