Raise your hands if you're in Shanghai or travel regularly through.

yo question for china head-fiers:

how does the price of headphones/amps go in china? Since i'm chinese and will be going back in summer, i'm wondering if it's better to buy stuff in Canada or China?

by the way, i'm going to beijing if that matters.

For the most of headphones, you can find in Beijing, I believe. No need buy here if you don't live here. If you just for short term vacation back to China, you can buy on your local stores or online, and bring it back. It might be cheaper than buying in China.

Headphone amp, different brand and different price. The good one will cost about RMB 3000. In north America, will cost around US$300-$500 for a good amp at least.

Not much stuff avaliable in Shanghai. I usually do my shopping in Hong Kong or when I'm back in the US. Anything imported into China is usually expensive. If anyone's coming to Shanghai soon, I've got a shopping list for you.

Cheap CDs and DVDs a plenty. Pretty good copies too. For a lot of non-mainstream music/movies, only pirated stuff is avaliable. Up until a few years ago, there was a 5 imported movie/year quota.

Been there once, a beautiful city! That expo observation tower makes a unique skyline. We were the guys in blue wandering around rubbernecking several years ago, must have been 2000.

BTW, do you guys see this radio on sale there? It's come up at rec.radio.shortwave (click on the pic for site):

I would sure be interested in getting one.

Imported electronics are actually cheaper here in the U.S. and Canada.

On the other hand, CDs and DVDs are definitely cheaper there.

You go to Shanghai for the FOOD! Not electronics...

electronics are definitely more expensive in china.
3000 rmb for a headphone amp in China? that's pricey, what made is it. What brand and model of headphone amp or headphone are available in shanghai or beijing? (i'll go there again in future). i think some excellent tube amp or preamp can be find in china.
i thought shanghai is famous for girl, not food

How come I had to do a search to bring up this thread? Strange.

Anyway, food is my number one priority when I get back. Those breakfast items are unbeatable

I am tired of all the restraunt food. The only thing food related that excites me these days are the breakfast items.

As to the girls, hmm.., I'll take a raincheck until I am old enough...

There are some tube amps around here...much cheaper but not sure about the quality. Anyone know a review site for Chinese tube amps?

Girls here are aggressive. Not saying all the women here are bad but the majority I see are after a passport or money. Why do you think Shanghainese men are well known (at least in Shanghai and Japan) as being fabulous hubands? They cook, clean, raise the kids, and bring home the bacon while the wife's out shopping. Again, not all Shanghai women, but a good number that I encounter.

Shanghai is also famous for its western restraunts! Lots of expats (with money or coporate accounts) = lots of (expensive) western restraunts!
