Head-Fi Folding@Home: Join the team!

We're moving in a few days, and will be living at my grandpa's for a year while he's overseas... long story, anyway, I'll have his 2.2GHz P4 (I think it's 2.2, anyway... close to that) folding, as well as my other XP 2000+ once it's up and running, and my sister's PIII 550 that I built. Hopefully I'll crawl back up in the rankings

What's the big difference between Genome@Home and Folding@Home?

One is finished, the other is still on going.

Human Genome mapping project.

Folding is for disease research to discover how proteins fold. Uh, OK I think I butchered the actual science with that brief statement.

selecting for GAH WU's in the clients will give you timeless FAH WU's... so you don't have to worry about finishing the work units within the alotted time as it is for regular FAH WU's.

nanahachi, before you fold on your work computer, make sure you get permission! Wouldn't want anyone fired, even if it is for a good cause.

Yes this is true, make sure you get permission unless you OWN the computer.

the last time I checked, I wasn't coming up as a team member. is there a lag time btwn joining and showing up? I've checked the team number twice, to make sure that I entered it correctly.

Well you won`t be shown until you upload your first WU and the database is updated.

Make sure you are folding for us by making sure the team number is correct.

I have been leaving my computer on 24/7 for the past few weeks, but the electric bill jumped by $20 for July and that was only with my computer on for 2/3 of that month, so I cannot leave my computer on all the time anymore, even when winter comes. I'll still be on my computer for an average of 4 to 8 hours a day and it'll be folding during that time of course.

Congrats to tkam, who went up the ranks quite fast, and welcome aboard to thewaka and nanahachi

DH and I several years ago did a distributed computing something when he worked at a computer rental place. He installed the client on all the currently unused computers. His numbers shot through the roof b/c he was running over 100 systems. Didn't last long, but it was fun.
