Like the title says I am unsure if this set up will work well having no prior audiophile experience. Some reviews say that the pairing works fine others say that it is a whisper with the e17.

(The E17 is a higher class model than the E12 so the Mont Blanc could only fair worse, right?)

I do not nessisarily need a portable amp but it would be preferred, any other suggestions under $200 if the E12 is a flop?

if the budget is about 200$, why dont you go for modi/magni?

I'm actually looking into the little dot mkiii. I also want to replace the stock tubes with the Mullard M8161.

But the thing is I have no idea how to tube roll, and am clueless as to which of the 4 tubes must be replaced.

do you already have a dac?
if not, consider modi/magni or audio gd 15.32/11.32.

The Little Dot mkiii is an OTL and it's not good with planars (e.g. HE-400). E12 is a better amp than E17,  but it doesn't have DAC (E17 is a DAC too). I like the Modi/Magni for $200 budget.
