I think jj describes it best, not too shabby but nowhere near their potential.

do you know if there are any amps with 2 outs that is good enough for the hd650?

I was looking at the Presonus HP4. But the output is only 51 ohms. So i overlooked that.

For single outs, what do you guys think of the little dot 2 ?

I can recommend the M3 as an excellent amp for the HD650. And you can roll opamps so that you can tailer the sound to your liking or your different headphones. My M3 sounds fantastic with the HD600, HD650, Grado HF-1, RS-1 and Sony SA5000.

Around $400 with the steps power supply and variable bass boost through Rockhopper Audio.

From my lengthy research into a good amp I doubt theres a more versatile one in that price range.

Anything that drives the HD650's is an amp! getting the best out of them is another thing! I would definitely get the best amp you can for them, as they require good clean power to shine!

I got the HD-650 before an amp, and they sound alright out of an iPod. Not great, but still very listenable.

My favorite amp (so far, still working on the DynaMite) for the HD-650 is the Dynalo/Gilmore Lite. Plenty of power and it's a nice match. The Millett Hybrid is good, too, and they sound great out of the PreSonus Central Station.

If you're on a tight budget, take a look at the Millett Hybrid. It's an easy build, low cost and there's tons of documentation.

When picking an amp, keep in mind that the HD650 is fairly slow. Try to pick an amp with a good level of speed... that'll help things a lot.
