Man if you burn in your Tomahawk like the 800 hours like the word around the campfire here that is 33.3 days and the Hornet is half that. A good comparison won't be until next month sometime. I have a 100 + HOURS on the Tomahawk and still burning with my new MS-1s 24 Hours Barely. HAPPY LISTENING!!

This thread prompted me to dig out my HD600's and my Hornet. Sitting here and listening to it, I can only reiterate that it is indeed a nice combo

The original Hornet is much more liquid and dynamic than any other portable amp that I've ever heard. It does sacrifice some detail and soundstage, however. I'm actually a bit afraid to have it modded to the M version since I don't want to lose that organic liquid tube-like sound. The HD600 carries the Hornet's tonal character through very well.

Unfortunately, it also carries my X5Ls tonal character through, too. While a good mp3 player, it just doesn't cut it as a source for the HD600, which is very, very picky with it's gear.

Oh well... still sounds nice!

Appreciate the imput, and I'm glad my thread gave some people the urge to analyze stuff

Another quick question. Anyone have a particular favorite cable upgrade for the HD650s, and how apparent this upgrade is? It would be encouraging to know that I could brighten the headphones slightly if I get that kind of urge.

edit: Another question (lol): Is there a particular site that has the 650s at a good price new, or should I hunt around the fs forums to get some random used?

I have both 650's and 600's with the Oritek. I highly recommend the Oritek if you don't already have it. Now it seems I need a Hornet

It will have to wait until my Apache gets here though.

FWIW, I prefer the Hornet with my 650's, and my HR Micro Amp with my RS-1's, but frankly they both sound really good with either of those cans. I use the HR Micro DAC almost exclusively as a source with both of those setups.

Hi!
Do you have the combo

HR Micro DAC -> Hornet?

how does it work??

Very cool! My gear will be similar to yours, only my amp is as wide as a quarter, and yours is as wide as....my house

My Zhaolu has the CS DAC board in it. Should I get the other one and/or switch opamps? Or does Ori do all that?
